What we collect

Frozen Rust runs Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-B81BQ12DCM) to count which tools and pages get used. This is the only third-party service the site loads.

Google Analytics records:

We do not collect your name, email, IP address (it's anonymised), or any account information — there is no account on Frozen Rust. We do not serve advertising. We do not sell or share data with third parties.

Consent and your choice

By default, all Google Analytics tracking is denied until you explicitly accept it via the cookie banner shown on first visit. This applies globally, not just to UK / EEA visitors. If you reject, no measurement cookies are set and no data is sent to Google. Your choice is stored in your browser's localStorage under the key frozen-rust-consent and persists across visits on the same device.

You can change your mind at any time:

Cookies and local storage

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets the following cookies on your browser (Google's documented set, all first-party):

The site also uses your browser's localStorage (not cookies) for these purposes:

How we use the data

The aggregate analytics tells us which tools are popular and which pages need work. That's it. We don't build user profiles, we don't run ads, we don't have an email list. The Steam News widget on the homepage talks to Steam's public news API, but that's a server-side fetch run via a GitHub Action — your browser never contacts Steam directly.

Data retention

Google Analytics retains user-level data for 14 months by default (the shortest setting Google offers). After that, only aggregate, non-identifiable data is preserved. If you reject consent, no user-level data is ever collected in the first place.

Your rights

If you're in the UK or the EEA, GDPR applies. You have the right to:

Third-party services

This site is hosted on DigitalOcean App Platform. Like all web hosts, DO logs basic request metadata (IP, user-agent, timestamp) for security and debugging. The Cloudflare Worker behind the gene-scanner tool processes uploaded screenshots ephemerally — images are not stored.

Embedded YouTube videos use the privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com domain, which Google describes as cookie-free until the user clicks play. Once you play a video, normal YouTube tracking applies. Google's privacy policy covers that.

Changes to this policy

If we add a new analytics or third-party service, this policy will be updated and the consent banner will reappear so you can re-confirm your choice. Last updated: 27 April 2026.
