AI-piloted attack helicopter that patrols the map every ~2-4 hours, hunting players. Heavily armed with rocket pods and minigun. Drops elite-tier loot when destroyed.

The Patrol Helicopter is Rust airborne pressure event — a server-spawned AI heli that patrols the map looking for player heat signatures and unloads rockets and minigun fire on contact. Most solos hide. Coordinated groups bring it down for elite-tier loot drops including LR300, MP5, AK47 and military weapons. It takes ~12 rockets, ~2 dozen 5.56 mags, or a sustained MGL barrage to reliably destroy.
When destroyed, the heli drops 4 crates at the crash site:
Total kit drop is roughly equivalent to clearing 2-3 Underwater Labs, in 5-10 minutes if the takedown goes well. The crash site itself has a fire that prevents looting for ~2 minutes — bring a hazmat suit or wait it out.
Rocket Launcher: ~12 standard rockets to the main rotor. Best from a covered position; you cannot stand in the open or it will rocket-pod you instantly.
5.56 rifles (AK47, LR300, M249): sustained fire from 100+ metres. Aim for the tail rotor first — destroying the tail makes the heli spin and lose accuracy. Then focus fire on the main body.
MGL or rocket spam: 40mm HE rounds work but you need the heli to be hovering near you, which is risky.
Hide spots: behind boulder formations, under bridges, inside monuments. The heli AI loses LOS quickly when you break cover; use this to reset between volleys.
If you do not want to engage, the priority is break line-of-sight fast. The heli detection range is ~150m line-of-sight. Move into trees, rocks, monuments. It loses interest after ~20 seconds without LOS.
Do not run in open desert — the heli rocket-pods you in seconds.
Inside a base: the heli will not damage stone or sheet metal walls. Twig and wood walls are vulnerable to rocket splash.
Bradley counter: sometimes the heli engages Bradley at Launch Site. Free distraction — move while they fight.
