The Rust clan base is its own animal. Open-core 3×3 or 4×4 shells, full honeycomb on every external wall, multiple armored loot rooms each costing 8 C4 to break. Total cost-to-raid routinely exceeds 250 rockets and runs above 500 for the most-watched zerg bases.
A clan base trades efficiency for raw defense. The footprint balloons to 3×3 or 4×4, walls are honeycombed up to three layers deep on the most-exposed sides, every loot room is wrapped in armored (HQM) walls, and there are typically 5+ bunkers distributed across the structure. Drone defenses, automated turrets, electrical traps and dedicated shooting floors are standard.
The trade-off: clan bases need 5+ active players to upkeep. Below that, you'll spend the whole wipe Jackhammer-farming.
A 3×3 clan base draws 800–1200 stone/hour. A 4×4 hits 1500+/hour. With 6+ active players running staggered Jackhammer rotations, this is sustainable. Below 5 active players, the upkeep load alone will dominate playtime.
250–500+ rockets soft-side. The most-watched zerg bases (Meano's Osmium, Rust Daddy's Colossus, RustBuilders' AURA) all sit above 400 rockets, with several exceeding 900. At that scale, only well-organized 8+ player raid groups will commit — and even then, they'll typically scout for offline windows first.
The Raid Calculator shows exactly how the rocket cost compounds as you stack honeycomb layers — a single armored wall is 8 C4, but three honeycombed walls in front of it bumps that to 14 C4 (~30,800 sulfur per side).
Rust Daddy (Colossus 24-man zerg base, Norseman, Stallion), Meano the Builder (Osmium, Unit, AURA — anti-siege specialist), RustBuilders, and ap rust all publish strong clan content. Many videos include drone setup, turret placement and ladder-defense layouts as standard.
Clan bases fail in two ways: raid logistics and internal access. The bigger the base, the longer it takes to get from the workbench to the loot — clans regularly build 4×4 monsters that take a minute to traverse, which means anyone caught online during a raid spawns into a losing fight.
The other classic: under-bunkering relative to footprint. A 4×4 with three bunkers is roughly the same defense as a 2×2 with three bunkers — you've just paid 4× the upkeep for nothing. Bunker count should scale with footprint.
Modern clan bases include automated defenses: drone patrols, turret arrays at the entry point, electrical sensor traps that spotlight raiders, and shooting floors with mounted weapons. Rust Daddy and Meano's recent builds all include wiring diagrams. See our Electricity Setup guide for the basics of base power.
