How the Seed Grader ranks Rust seeds

Every seed in Rust has a 6-gene genome made up of G, Y, H, W and X. The Seed Grader scores each gene by its in-game value and gives the seed a single S–D rating so you can sort dozens of seeds in seconds without doing the math by hand.

Gene values

• G — 3.0. Growth speed. The single best gene in the game.
• Y — 2.5. Yield. Slightly less impactful than G but still excellent.
• W — 1.0. Water hog. Useless and dangerous in crossbreeding (high tie-weight).
• H — 0.5. Hardy. Niche use; resists condition swings but most farms keep light and water at 100%.
• X — 0.0. Empty. No effect on the plant; lethal in crossbreeding.

Grading scale

• S — God tier. 5–6 G/Y genes and zero W or X. Plant immediately.
• A — Strong. 4+ G/Y, at most 1 W or H. Excellent breeding parent.
• B — Decent. 3 G/Y, up to 2 weak genes. Use as a parent if you have nothing better.
• C — Weak. 2 G/Y or several W genes. Only useful as filler if you're desperate.
• D — Discard. Mostly W and X. Throw it away — never breed with it.

How to use the rankings

After grading, keep your S and A seeds for breeding into the God Clone Planner. Plant your best seed at the centre of a 3×3 planter and use 6+ A or B seeds as parents around it. Discard everything graded D — it can't help and only risks corrupting your output through the crossbreeding tie-weight system.

Why grading beats eyeballing

It's easy to look at GGYWGY and think "that's a strong seed." But it has 2 G, 2 Y, 1 W and 1… wait, you already lost track. The grader removes guesswork — paste in any seed and it tells you instantly whether it's worth keeping.
