A Rust duo base is built around the principle of redundancy. Two players means two TCs (so one offline tomb can't lock the other out), two bunkers (so a successful raid on one room still leaves loot), and roughly twice the upkeep capacity. The bases below are designed for 2-player groups and target the 60–120 rocket cost-to-raid bracket.
The duo bracket is where bunker design starts to matter. A solo can get away with one bunker; a duo needs at least two because you have twice as much loot worth hiding. Duos also need two TCs — one online TC behind the loot, one offline TC behind a bunker — so that an attacker raiding one TC doesn't instantly stop your upkeep timer.
Footprint should be 2×1 (most efficient) or 2×2 (more comfortable). Above that you're entering trio territory. Soft-side cost-to-raid should land in the 60–120 rocket bracket.
A 2×1 duo base typically draws around 200–300 stone per hour upkeep — comfortable for two players running occasional Jackhammer sessions. A 2×2 hits 400–500/hour, which still works for two but starts to dominate playtime. If you regularly play with a third, jump to a trio base instead of stretching a 2×2.
The 80–120 rocket bracket is the sweet spot. Below 60 rockets, opportunists will chip you on day three; above 150, you're paying upkeep for a base only mega-clans can afford to raid. The strongest duo-focused channels are Crow (Humbug, Cyclone, Jupiter, Chimera all duo-friendly), Faded (TITAN, ARES, KRAKEN series), and Limi Lab (multi-bunker open-core builds). Most "Solo/Duo/Trio" builds in our index work for duo too — that's why those bases appear in multiple group filters.
The classic duo trap is only one TC. A single TC means a single point of failure — a raider into your loot room can also hold your TC, soft-side blocking your upkeep, which lets them grief you offline indefinitely. Always run two TCs in different rooms.
The other big mistake: building 2×2 when you should build 2×1. A 2×2 is roughly 2× the materials and 2× the upkeep for maybe 1.3× the loot capacity. Tight 2×1s are stronger pound-for-pound.
If you have a third regular, switch to a trio base with a 2×2 or 3×2 footprint. With four+, jump to a quad base with proper sheet-metal honeycombing and triple bunkers. The duo bases below don't scale well — they're designed for two players sharing two TCs.
