The L96 is Rust's apex sniper — drop-only, can't be crafted, higher damage than the Bolt Action, longer effective range. Essentially the Bolt Action with the dial turned up. Rarely seen because of the drop-only acquisition; when you do see one, the user has either farmed Heli/Bradley successfully or got lucky on an elite crate.
No — drop only. Sources: Elite Crates, Bradley APC kills, Patrol Helicopter kills, Cargo Ship locked crate (after 15-min hack).
L96 has higher damage per shot and longer effective range. Bolt is craftable, L96 is drop-only. L96 wins on stats; Bolt wins on accessibility.
Genuinely rare. Most wipes most players never own one. Patrol Heli kills are the most reliable source — kill the heli, hope for L96 in the crate drops.
The L96 is Rust's premier sniper rifle — drop-only, single-shot bolt, highest per-shot damage of any rifle in the game. It's the weapon for picking off targets at 100m+ range, anti-counter-sniping during raids, and deleting low-HP enemies in one hit. It's not a versatile gun; it's a specialist tool that demands patience and positioning.
Effective range is 50-200+ metres with a high-magnification scope. Below 30m the slow bolt cycle makes it suicide against any auto-fire weapon — switch to your secondary instantly.
The L96 takes standard rifle attachments and the right ones make a huge difference:
Vs **Bolt Action Rifle**: Bolt is craftable, the L96 is drop-only with higher damage and better range. Bolt is the practical sniper; L96 is the elite version.
Vs **M39**: M39 is semi-auto, more sustained DPS at 30-60m range. L96 wins past 80m.
Vs **AK47**: completely different tools. AK for 25-50m; L96 for 100m+.
Pair the L96 with an **AK47, M39, or MP5** primary for sub-50m engagements. The L96 is your **secondary** — the gun you swap to when a target appears at distance, then swap back. Wear **Metal Facemask + Roadsign** at minimum. **Pure Max Health Tea** matters because if a sniper duel goes wrong, you need the HP to survive the trade.
