Pick your target — wall, door or otherwise — and see exactly how many rockets, C4, satchels, beancans or explosive 5.56 you need to break through, plus the total sulfur cost for each option.
// click any target below to add it to your raid plan — totals update automatically using the cheapest viable explosive for each target.
// counts are soft-side hits to destroy each target with a single explosive type. Sulfur cost is the rolled-up sulfur in the recipe (raw + crafted ingredients). Highlighted cell = lowest sulfur cost per target.
Every wall and door in Rust has a fixed HP value, and every explosive deals a fixed amount of damage to each material. The calculator above takes both numbers — HP and damage-per-hit — and tells you exactly how many of each explosive you need, then converts that into a total sulfur cost, which is the universal currency of every raid.
Sulfur is the bottleneck. You can farm metal fragments and gunpowder fast, but sulfur nodes cap out at around 300 sulfur per node with a Jackhammer (more with pure ore tea + Bear Pie). Comparing the sulfur cost of options is the only fair way to rank explosives.
The chart shows the total rolled-up sulfur per piece — this includes the sulfur baked into the gunpowder, the rocket propellant, the explosives, and so on. Recipes that need crafted sub-ingredients are walked all the way down.
Every Rust wall has a soft side (where you placed it from inside the base) and a hard side (the outside). Explosives deal full damage to the soft side and reduced damage to the hard side. The calculator assumes soft side, since that's where most external raids land — through a window slot, a door breach or after popping the first wall.
Sulfur output is multiplicative with stacked buffs. A Pure Ore Tea + Bear Pie + Jackhammer combo can push a sulfur node from 300 base to over 600 — meaning roughly two rockets' worth of sulfur from a single node. See the Yield Calculator for exact numbers and the Tea Brewery Calculator to brew the tea.
A 2×2 stone base entry through one wall + one sheet metal door costs 6,600 sulfur (2 C4 for the wall at 4,400 + 1 C4 for the door at 2,200). Add an armored loot room wall and that jumps to 24,200 sulfur total (extra 8 C4 = 17,600). This is why raid groups bring 20,000+ sulfur even for a "small" base — armored loot rooms are the difference.
