Rust Keycard Guide — Green, Blue & Red (2026)
// the progression in one line

Green → Blue → Red. Each puzzle hands you the next card.

Find a Green card from a barrel or low-tier monument. Use it at a Tier 1 puzzle (e.g. Sewer Branch) — the loot room contains a Blue card. Take the Blue card to a Tier 2 monument (e.g. Airfield) — that puzzle drops a Red card. The Red card opens Tier 3 monuments (Launch Site, Military Tunnels, Missile Silo). One green card chains all the way up.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a green keycard in Rust?

Green keycards drop from low-tier monuments and barrels: Mining Outpost, Abandoned Supermarket, Lighthouse, Oxum's Gas Station, the Junkyard scientist, and many basic crates. They're the easiest to find — typically you'll have a green card within 30 minutes of starting a wipe.

How do I get a blue keycard?

Blue keycards are the puzzle reward at most Tier 1 (green-card) monuments: Sewer Branch, Satellite Dish, Small Harbor, Large Harbor and The Dome. Use a green card at the puzzle door, claim the Blue Keycard from the loot room. Blue cards also drop from Cargo Ship and rarely from elite crates.

How do I get a red keycard?

Red keycards are the puzzle reward at Tier 2 (blue-card) monuments: Airfield, Power Plant, Trainyard, Water Treatment Plant. Use blue card → claim red. Red cards also drop from the Bradley Tank crates at Launch Site, Patrol Helicopter crates, and Cargo Ship's locked crate (after a 15-min hack timer).

Do keycards expire or get used up?

Keycards are consumed on use — each puzzle door swipe uses one card. They don't expire while you hold them, so stock up before a serious monument route. Some servers reset keycard inventory on map wipe; on most servers you keep them through wipe.

Can I just buy keycards from a vending machine?

Sometimes. Outpost vending machines occasionally sell green keycards for ~30-50 scrap, and player-set vending machines around bases sometimes sell green/blue cards. Red keycards are rarely sold and usually overpriced. Farming them yourself is faster mid-wipe.

What's the fastest progression path?

Green card → Sewer Branch (Blue card reward) → Airfield (Red card reward) → Launch Site / Military Tunnels (top-tier loot). One green card from a barrel can chain you to top-tier loot in 90 minutes if you know the puzzle order. Full route in our Monuments hub.
