The Waterpipe Shotgun is the T1 single-shot shotgun — one shell, fire, slow reload. Cheap to craft and devastating at close range, but the reload is a real liability. Most players replace it with a Pump Shotgun the moment they have the resources. Waterpipe is mostly a 'used it for a wipe-day clutch then forgot it existed' weapon.
T1 workbench. 75 metal frags + 100 wood + 1 metal pipe. Default-known blueprint.
For its tier and cost, yes. Single-shot kill potential at point blank. The slow reload makes it a bad choice for sustained fights. Replace with Pump Shotgun (still T1) at the first opportunity.
At point blank against a naked or low-armour target, yes — Buckshot deals enough damage to kill. Past 10-15m, the spread is too wide for reliable kills.
The Waterpipe is Rust's first 'real' shotgun — Tier 1 workbench, single-shot capacity, brutal close-range damage when it lands. It's the early wipe weapon you craft before you have T2 access for the Pump Shotgun. Surprisingly effective in the right hands; almost useless in the wrong ones.
Effective range is 0-7 metres. Past 7m the spread and damage drop make it a noise-maker. Inside 3m against an unarmoured target it's a one-shot kill with Buckshot.
The Waterpipe is a single-shot weapon with no attachments. The only loadout decision is ammo:
Most players run handmade shells exclusively until they upgrade to Pump.
Vs **Pump Shotgun**: Pump is T2, 6 rounds, much faster cycle. Waterpipe is T1, single-shot. Upgrade the moment you can.
Vs **Eoka**: Eoka is the T0 misfire-prone weapon. Waterpipe is strictly better but costs more.
Vs **Crossbow**: Crossbow has range; Waterpipe has burst damage. Different tools.
Vs **Compound Bow**: Compound is for stealth/range; Waterpipe is for in-your-face close encounters.
Pair the Waterpipe with **Crossbow or Bow** for ranged backup, or a **Revolver** sidearm for repeat shots. Wear what early-wipe armour you can scrape together — **Bone Armor + Burlap helmet** is typical. Save the Pure teas for when you have a real loadout; basic Healing Tea is plenty for early-wipe engagements.
